This is my one year anniversary of my first blog post.On that first post I did my top 40 for 2011. A lot of people don't understand how I can even come up with 40 songs. I still think that there is a lot of great music out there, you just have to seek it our more than you used to. Here is my list of my favorite 40 songs from the year 2012. My rules are simple, it may have come out before 2012 but if I first became aware of it in 2012, then it is eligible for my list. Enjoy and thanks for following me this year. I am now also linking my playlist in Spotify. In this case, 4 songs of the 40 are missing from the Spotify library. Enjoy

40. Chantal Claret - Pop Pop Bang Bang
Chantal Claret was the lead singer of the band Morningwood. They had a hit song with Nth Degree a few years ago. This is the first single from her solo album, "The One, The Only". The more I listen to it the more I like it. Check it out, great from beginning to end.
39. Chappo - Come Home
This is the first single from their debut album "Moonwater". I've never seen it but it looks like this song has been used in a Sears commercial. Man times have changed. This is was suggested by Kevin. Thanks
38. The Fixx - Anyone Else
This is the first single from their first album in 9 years, "Beautiful Friction".
37. Zulu Winter - Silver Tongue
This is the 2nd single from their 2012 major label debut "Play It Again Sam". It gets stuck in your head after a few listens. Thanks again Kevin for this one.
36. Ian McCulloch - Lift Me Up
This is the first single from Ian's 3rd solo album, "Pro Patria Mori". Ian McCulloch is the lead singer of the band Echo and the Bunnymen.
35. Birdy - People Help the People
Birdy is 16 year old English singer Jasmine van den Bogaerde. She won a UK talent show at the age of 12 and became a YouTube Sensation with her cover of Skinny Love. This is off of her debut album, "Birdy". This is a cover of a great song by a band called Cherry Ghost.
34. Rita Ora - Hot Right Now (feat. DJ Fresh)
I can't get enough of this song and I'm not sure why. It annoys my friend Stacey to no end. She lives in the UK and they supposedly play it incessantly.
33. Citizen Cope - One Lovely Day
This is the title track from his latest CD. There is also a cover of Glen Campbell's "Southern Nights" on this one. Great CD. I love this song right now. This guy never disappoints.
32. The Drums - Money
I discovered this band on the Glastonbury 2012 concert this year as well. This is the first single from the 2011 CD, "Portamento". They remind me of an an old 80's band but I can't quite figure out who. Either way, it's a great catchy song.
31. Royal Teeth - Wild
This is the first single from their debut EP, "Act Naturally". It is the fourth song on this list that was recommended to me by my friend Kevin.
30. Kassidy - I Don't Know
Kassidy is an alternative rock band from Glasgow Scotland. This is from their first CD "Hope St.". I discovered them on a Glastonbury 2012 Rock Festival that has been playing on Paladia lately.
29. Muse - Save Me
This is a non single track from their 6th album "2nd Law". I love this track, not sure about the rest of the CD though.
28. The Dirty Heads - Day By Day
The Dirty Heads are a modern rock/reggae band from Southern California. This is an album track from the second CD "Cabin By The Sea".
27. Atlas Genius - Trojans
This was released in 2011 but I didn't become aware of it until my friend Wendy posted it on her top list for 2011. It was originally released as a single but then included on their debut 2012 EP "Through The Glass". It's a great song. Thanks
26. Noah and the Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N
Another band I discovered this year but this song was released in 2011. It has a Lloyd Cole vibe to it. It was from the 2011 album "Last Night On Earth".
25. Dum Dum Girls - Lord Knows
This is the first single from the 2012 EP, "End Of Days". Another Kevin suggestion.
24. fun. - Some Nights
I wrote this in January when I posted this song, "This band has a lot of promise. Sounds like a mix between Queen and Fleetwood Mac so that can't be bad.". This song became a huge hit.
23. Capital Cities - Safe and Sound
Capital Cities is a band from Los Angeles CA. They released their debut album in 2012 with this being the first single. This is my highest song on the chart suggested by Kevin. Thanks again for all of the suggestions.
22. David Guetta - Titanium (feat. Sia)
I'm usually not a fan of this kind of music and I still do not understand when a DJ like him performs live but this song featuring Sia on vocals got me hooked. Having an 11 year old daughter helps I'm sure. Having said all that, it's a really good song.
21. Pink - Truelove
This is an album track from her 2012 CD "The Truth About Love".
20. Walk The Moon - Anna Sun
I wrote this back in January as well, "Another new band that has just released a 2 song EP. This song is going to be one of my favorites for this year. I'm hopeful that a full album will be released later this year. They are continuing the trend of bands like Snow Patrol and Keane.
19. Neon Trees - Still Young
This is another song off of the great 2012 album, "Picture Show". It's great from beginning to end. Pick it up if you get a chance.
18. fun. - Why Am I The One
Another great song from their 2012 album "Some Nights". Another album that is great from beginning to end except for 1 awful auto tuned song called "Stars".
17. Scouting For Girls - Love How It Hurts
Scouting For Girls are a great band from London England. They have scored a number of big hits in England but have yet to be noticed here in the United States. This is an album track from their third CD "The Light Between Us". This is another great CD from start to finish and is well worth it.
16. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason (featuring Nate Reuss of .fun)
I have come to the conclusion that Pink is the best pop female performer out today. Every time she releases a new CD, I listen to it and usually love every song. I can't say the same for many other artists. This is an album track (for now) off of her latest CD "The Truth About Love"
15. Bruno Mars - Moonshine
This is an album track from his second album, "Unorthodox Jukebox".
14. Bahamas - Lost in the Light
This is from the 2nd CD from the band Bahamas.
13. Alex Clare - I Love You
This is an album track from the 2011 debut CD, "The Lateness of the Hour". Amazing song that is a great follow up to "Too Close".
12. Chevelle - Face To The Floor
Chevelle has been around for a while and I have been relatively indifferent to them. The new CD "Hats Off To the Bull" seems a little different and more mature. It kind of has a Tool sound to it.
11. Keane - Sovereign Light Cafe
Keane came out around the same time that one of my other favorites, Snow Patrol did. They haven't kept up with Snow Patrol like I had hoped although I have liked most of what they released. This song is from their 2012 CD, "Strangeland". This is an amazing CD.
10. Taylor Swift - The Last Time (Feat. Gary Lightbody Of Snow Patrol)
Although considered a very pop singer, each cd has matured along with her. This song sounds like it could be right off of the last Snow Patrol CD. Great song. Check it out.
9. Imagine Dragons - It's Time
This amazing song is the first single from their major label debut album "Night Visions". The more I listen to this album the more it gets consideration for my top 10 albums of the year. Good stuff.
8. Mike Doughty - Southern Girls
Just a great new take on a classic Cheap Trick song, It's from his 2012 album "The Flip Is Another Honey".
7. Biffy Clyro - Machines (Live At Wembley)
This Scottish band is quickly becoming one of my favorites. As with many of their songs, the live version is better than the original.
6. Youngblood Hawke - We Come Running
I wrote this in October when they first appeared on this blog. "Youngblood Hawke is a new band formed by Sam Martin, and Simon Kat, 2 of the 3 founding members of the band "Iglu and Hartly". This maybe my current favorite new song.". This song reached number 7 on the US Alternative Charts. Just a great song.
5. Neon Trees - Close to You
The best song from a great album and their second appearance on my list for 2012. If you don't have this CD, you are missing out.
4. Biffy Clyro - Many Of Horror (Live At Wembley)
This is also from their amazing "Live From Wembley" CD. I gave it serious consideration for song of he year.
3. The Killers - The Way It Was
These guys are just one of the best current pop rock bands out right now. This is an album tack from their latest CD, "Battle Born".
2. Bruno Mars - Locked Out Of Heaven
This is the first single from his second album, "Unorthodox Jukebox". I really appreciate modern singers who go the extra mile to sound different than anything thing outright now.
1. The Gaslight Anthem - Here Comes My Man
When it was all said and done, there was not one song in 2012 that I listened to more (willingly) than this one. Like my number one song for 2011 (Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know) nothing really came close to how I felt when I listened to this. Just an amazing song.
