There have always been songs from the 80's that were huge hits and then there were songs that were songs that were more private. You know the kind that were on a tape that only you and your friends seem to remember. These are 5 songs, for me, that are in that second category.
Gene Loves Jezebel - The Motion of Love
Gene Loves Jezebel were always a band that seemed cool to me, maybe because they never got huge, I'm not sure. This was from their 1988 release, "House of Dolls". The band consisted of twin bothers Jay and Michael Aston. They are now estranged and both have a separate bands called "Gene Loves Jezebel". I find that very odd but oh well. Journey got their current lead singer from YouTube.
Ministry - Work For Love
This is from Ministry's first release, "Work For Love". They had a Depeche Mode sound on this album but quickly moved towards an industrial sound. I preferred this sound much better.
Billy Idol - Catch My Fall
This is the 4th single from his 3rd album, "Rebel Yell". It wasn't a huge hit but was one of my favorites from this album.
A Flock of Seagulls - The More You Live, The More You Love
This was the first single from their 3rd album, "Story of a Young Heart. It was also the last song to chart in the US. I think this is their best album.
Bauhaus - She's In Parties
Bauhaus was a short lived band who consisted of Peter Murphy, Danial Ash, Dabid J and Kevin Haskins. The last 3 went on to form Tones on Tail and the very successful Love and Rockets and Peter Murphy has had a huge solo career. This was always a cool dark song to me.
Love and Rockets - No New Tale to Tell
Since I was talking about Love and Rockets, here's a great one.
