The way I listen to music has dramatically changed since the
internet. When I was young, my exposure to music was the radio, magazines, the
record store promotional displays and word of mouth. MTV changed that a lot but
it was still very hard to find music. That was part of the charm and fun of
being a fan of music back then. My other music nerd friends would trek all over
Baltimore, in search of that rare music find. Sometimes we were successful,
sometimes we weren’t but it was always fun. When I finally found what I was
looking for, I would bring it home and play it until I either A, got sick of it
or B, hated it. I knew whole albums from beginning to the end. Now, with so
much access to music and the shuffle option on my ipod, I don’t get to know
albums through and through like I used to. I’m torn as to what is better. I do
love the access I have to more and more music and have found so many great
songs that I would have never come to know back in the day.
