Here are 5 more songs that have always been hits to me and the lucky (or unlucky) people who have either driven with me over the years or been fortunate enough to be at my house when I play music.

This is just another collection of songs that I loved from the early 80's. Enjoy

6 Great Songs From the 80's Volume 8

I turned 47 this week. It's amazing how time really does fly. It got me thinking to my days in High School. The early 80's were a great time for me both musically and in life in general. I was in high school, just started driving, had a job at Dunkin Donuts and of course was hanging out with girls. Life was good. Here are 5 songs from that time in my life.

5 Songs On My iPod Volume 9

With the weather being so great this week and me being back to work, I cleared my iPod and loaded 1000 new songs. I usually just keep copying songs until I get sick of what comes up in shuffle mode. Here are 5 songs that popped up this week while driving around.

5 Songs On My iPod Volume 8

This is just a continuation of me being stuck at home and then finally getting out. My iPod is getting very full. This leads to a nice mix of songs popping up when in random play.

Friends Top List Series (Tracey Blair Mullaney All Time Top 10)

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I used to DJ in a bar on the weekends and many of my friends would come in to hang out and listen to some music you might not hear anywhere else. Two of my friends, Ray and Tracy met due to their love for music and mutual friends and ultimately got married. Here is Tracey's Top 10. Still waiting on Ray's.

I have been friends with Eric for a long time. Eric was always into music and then turned that into being a musician and playing in bands. This is a very cool collection of songs that shows his musician side. Great list.

6 Great Songs From the 80's Volume 6

When I do these "Decade" posts I like to post songs that either were a little on the obscure side or have not been played for a while. With the fragmentation of radio stations, iPods and Satellite Radio, much of this music has no place other than an oldies show or an actual 80's station. I think these 6 fit that mold.

5 Great New Songs Volume 4

As the months turn, more new music is starting to be released, whether it's a new single off of an album that has been out or a brand new band trying to get their music out there. I think this is a good mix of a few different kinds of music. I usually try to listen to whole albums and find songs that are worth listening to. Some of these are "singles" and some are just album tracks.

5 Songs On My iPod Volume 6

I've been out for a week and so I decided to do a few posts today. These are just 5 songs that popped up on my iPod in the last few weeks.

The Valley Girl Soundtrack

The soundtrack to the movie "Valley Girl" is a strange story. The movie was not a huge hit when it was released in the theaters in 1983 but grew in popularity when it was played on HBO and the release on video. The original soundtrack was supposed to be released on Epic Records but never was due to rights to many songs. I have a copy that has CBS Records on it so I'm not sure of what happened there. After the film was completed, problems arose in acquiring the music rights and substitute songs had to be dubbed in. The music rights cost $250,000 on top of the film's original $350,000 budget. You see this a lot today when a TV show features a song but when it appears on DVD or Netflix, a new song has been replaced.
It was released in different forms in years later but each one didn't have the feel of the original. I found a promo only copy (CBS Records) in 1984 and thought it was such a cool collectors item. It is one of only a few albums that I still have. The amount of great songs that were used in the movie was pretty amazing. There is no way today that a low budget movie could ever afford to feature this many songs. Now in most lower budget Movies or TV shows you see one or two popular songs and a huge number of unknown artists trying to get their music out. Many of these bands were already having success due to exposure on MTV and I guess the record companies wanted too much money for the rights. Here is a list of the music featured in the film but may or may not be on any of the later soundtracks released. There are a few others but I could not find a corresponding YouTube Video so I did not post.
