6 Great Songs From the 80's Volume 6

When I do these "Decade" posts I like to post songs that either were a little on the obscure side or have not been played for a while. With the fragmentation of radio stations, iPods and Satellite Radio, much of this music has no place other than an oldies show or an actual 80's station. I think these 6 fit that mold.

The Call - I Still Believe
The Call were a band that got significant airplay on WHFS in the mid to late 80's. This song was also covered and used for "The Lost Boys" soundtrack. Sadly, Michael Been, the lead singer, died of a heart attack in 2010. His son Robert is the lead singer for the band "Black Rebel Motorcycle Club".

Peter Gabriel - Don't Give Up (w Kate Bush)
This was one of the follow up singles off of the huge hit album "So". Kate Bush was also very popular at the time so this was almost guaranteed to be a hit. He has performed this live over the years with many singers taking Kate Bush's part including Tracey Chapman and Paula Cole.

Mr. Mister - Kyrie
This was the second huge hit for Mr. Mister following Broken Wings. The name is short for Kýrie, Eléison which means "Lord, have mercy" in Biblical Greek. They were one of my favorite bands for the 3 albums they released during the 80's.

Sam Phillips - Holding On To The Earth
When I first heard this song, I was blown away by it's unique sound. It had a haunting 60's vibe which at the time was very original to me. I sought out the CD  "The Indescribable Wow" immediately and listened to it constantly back in 1988.

Paul Young - Everything Must Change
This was the single before "Every Time You Go Away" which was written by Hall and Oates. It was not a huge hit but had success around the world.

The Fixx - Secret Separation
The Fixx were starting to have less success by the time the album "Walkabout" was released in 1988. It was mainly related to rock stations like 98 Rock here in Baltimore. I loved it and is still one of my favorites by them.
