6 Songs From The Mind of Wendy Volume 1

Here is another in my guest series featuring my long time music friend Wendy. Enjoy

I contacted Dave the other day and asked him if I could use his blog to talk about some new music that I’m digging, and he graciously has allowed me to ramble on. I am so excited to say that I am SO EXCITED about new music again! For YEARS I've been whining that there isn't anything good coming out. So much so that I've had to dive deep into my iPod and relive the music of yesteryear's. It’s just lately that I've begun to venture out a bit… maybe in part to WTMD. I think they've changed their format some, or maybe they just have better music to work with now – whatever, I actually enjoy listening to the radio on occasion again. Here is some spanking brand new music (and a couple of songs that are just new to me – but that’s what happens when you live in an iPod bubble) that I am totally crushing on right now.

Fuzz - What’s in My Head (October 2013)

Very heavy guitar driven, sounds like honey… If Jimi Hendrix played in Black Sabbath I imagine it would sound a lot like this. This song makes the metal girl in me swoon! .

Phantogram - Black Out Days (Sept 2013)

When I saw that Dave posted “When I’m Small” by this band recently it just confirmed to me just how much they rock! Their sound is ethereal and heavy all at the same time. I am obsessed with this song; it’s been on repeat for days now. This is how music is supposed to be!

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? (June 2013)

If this song doesn’t get you moving, even if it’s just your big toe tapping, then nothing will! There’s a whole groovy thing going on lately, probably the most recognizable is by the Black Keys – but I’m not complaining. Bring on the bass!!!! I can almost guarantee that the chorus of this song is going to get stuck in your head. Enjoy. These next two are not new, but from a couple of years back - I’m digging the whole new indie meets 80s retro feel… makes me want to smear on lots of black eyeliner and a big black wide-brimmed hat.

Local Natives - Wide Eyes (2010)

Just a cool song to get the day going. The drum beat gets in your head…and it won’t quit. Happy music. Just damn happy music!!! (Bonus points for such a dang cool video).

Wild Nothing - Quiet Hours (2010)

Just reminds me of going to underground alternative clubs in the late 80s … in the days where we spent way more time getting ready to go out than we actually spent out in the clubs. Back then, life was all about “getting ready to go out” and this song would have been the soundtrack!

Tears for Fears - And I Was a Boy From School (2013

Who knew TFF was BACK??? Not this girl! And I couldn’t be happier! Can’t wait for the new album!) I know this is a Hot Chip cover… but it sounds amazingly like Death Cab for Cutie to me. It’s just so addictive. You can hear some of the old TFF keyboards and drum beats if you listen closely… I love how they made this song their own.
