5 Songs On My iPod Volume 9

With the weather being so great this week and me being back to work, I cleared my iPod and loaded 1000 new songs. I usually just keep copying songs until I get sick of what comes up in shuffle mode. Here are 5 songs that popped up this week while driving around.

John Waite - Just Like Lovers
This was an album track from John Waite's 3rd solo album, "Mask of Smiles". This was the follow up to his huge hit album, "No Brakes" and the number 1 song "Missing You". Although it did not have the success the record company was looking for, I thought it was an amazing album. This song had such angst and heartache over a love for a friend who can't be more, I was blown away. This was a huge hit among my friends, mainly because I played it constantly.

Evan Dando - Streets of Baltimore
Evan Dando covered this obscure country song originally written and recorded by Tompall Glaser & The Glaser Brothers in 1966. The song was more well known by Graham Parsons and was later used in the hit TV Series the Wire. I always loved Evan Dando's version the best.

Blur - Song 2
Blur had become a huge band in England and had some cool alternative hits in the US by the time this was released. This song was stripped down and was really short at 2:00. When I used to DJ, it was probably one of the 2 most party songs I ever played along with Rage Against the Machine's "Killing In the Name Of". Whenever I played this, the entire bar would sing in unison, "Woo Hoo".

Third Eye Blind - Narcolepsy
Another amazing album cut from their first album. This is one of the songs that almost made my top 25 of all time. I never get sick of it. I think it's the best song they have ever made.

Lotion -  Head
I always loved this song but years later I listened to the lyrics and made it that much better. It's written from the perspective of a family dog and his sadness when he is delegated to the bottom of the importance list when the owners have a baby. Very heartbreaking song. See the lyrics below.

She came shortly after I was born
Now I can't go in the rooms I used to own
My world is full of strangers and I spend the day in chains
I just want to go outside and run around
Help me, I'm burning, I'm burning
Help me break a window
For the lonely days, white fur hat, little red coat
Sleep in the big bed like a king
Sunlight through the window on my shiny brown head
And love behind my ears and on my back
On my back
Lay my head down and try to forget her
I was just somewhere else but now I find myself here
Help me, I'm burning, I'm burning
Help me break a window
Help me crack the door open
Help me, I'm burning inside
Think about leaving, think about running away
Beyond the backyard, beyond the highway
Someone who'll kiss my face, let me sleep inside
Do you think I'll get there, do you think I'll make it
Do you think I'll make it
Help me, I'm burning, I'm burning
Help me break a window
Help me crack the door open
Help me, I'm burning inside
