This song is from the 1999 album "This Desert Life".
I have a great life. I have a wonderful wife and a great daughter.
I spent a lot of time looking for her. There were plenty of times when I didn't think I would ever meet someone like her. There were a lot of trying relationships and some friendships that didn't last.
Along the way, I always had my true friends and family. I was lucky, even if I didn't know it some of the time. This song has a lot of meaning and when it was out, it rang very true. I was even 33 when it first came out. Sometimes, the timing of a song has as much to do with it as the actual greatness of a song. I don't know if this song would resonate with me now if I heard for the first time in 2012. I'm too happy to feel the way a song like this is suppose to make me feel. I always though that John Lennon was a better songwriter than Paul McCartney because deep down, he wasn't as happy. The same is true for many songwriters. Billy Joel wrote much better songs when he was a struggling songwriter then when he became rich and married to Christie Brinkley. His Doo Wop phase was awful but I digress.
Adam Duritz is a very emotional and deep songwriter and hit the nail on the head with this one.
This line rang true for a long time, "All my friends and lovers leave me behind, I'm still looking for a girl"
