6 Obscure Late 80's Early 90's Songs Volume 3

I was told recently that my music definitely trends towards the 90's. I was a little shocked by that because I also like so much new music and the 80's were so great. Looking through some of my playlists, that person might be right. It was a good time. Here are 6 more of those songs.

The Dambuilders - Shrine
Not sure where I heard this band. I used to get promo cd's and I think they may have been on one of those. It doesn't matter, this was a great song.

The Caulfields  - Devils Diary
This was played for a short time on WHFS. They were from Delaware and they got a lot of airplay in Philly. Oddly enough, I saw the lead singer, John Faye play at a living room show a few years later. It was very cool.

The Church - Reptile
I always thought this was a better song than "Under The Milky Way". I always seemed to like the later singles off of albums. It should have been bigger.

Concrete Blonde - Mexican Moon
This band had a little run of songs that were hits on Alternative radio. This was near the end and wasn't as big of a hit as Joey. It had a cool sound to it and listening to it now, it doesn't seem dated at all.

Tears For Fears - Woman in Chains
I knew I would miss a song that needed to be on my all time top 25 songs. This is easily in my top 5. How did I forget? It looks like I will need to edit my post. One of the greatest songs ever.

Guadalcanal Diary - Litany (Life Goes On)
When a band with a new sound comes out, the record industry looks for more bands from the same area and similar sound. It happened with the Seattle Scene, LA and in the late 80's, the Athens Georgia scene. These guys were from Marrietta Georgia but were often billed from Athens. They had a sound like REM and for a brief time, stations like WHFS played them. I haven't heard them on the radio since.

  2. I'm looking for a band from the late 80s/early 90s that had a sound like REM meets Concrete Blonde with a little Irsish twist. The one song I think I remember is "I don't love you, Marne" The CD cover was green...

  4. David,
Not much, a friend tunred me on to them along with the Heartthrobs and Voice of the Beehive. They were very obscure I think they only had the one album, but not sure. It seems like the name may have been something artistic, like the Rembrandts, But not the band that did the theme to Friends. It was not something I played a lot, but the modern stuff my son listens to reminds me of them.

  5. Was it a girl or guys singer?
    What area of the country?

  6. It was a male singer. I was in New Mexico but they were not local. Maybe even English or Irish but not sure about that.

  7. Well that cuts my search in half. :-)
Do you know where your friend found his new music? Maybe a local radio station that played more obscure stuff?
The only thing I can find is band called Jazz Butcher. They had an album in 1984 that had a song called Marnie. They were Irish but I don't think that's it though. If you can think of anything else, let me know.
