Friends Top List Series (William Hiler All Time Top 10)

I met Bill years ago when I was DJ'ing. I used to play in a bar where they let me play what I wanted. Over the years, it started to attract a great crowd of people who liked to hear some music that wasn't your everyday run of the mill bar music. I met a bunch of new people that way. One was Bill. Here is his top 10. Love his comments on each song. Great playlist. Enjoy.

10 The Black Keys - I Got Mine
As far as I am concerned, this is the perfect blend of gritty blues, rock, and subsonic soul. Saw them do do it at the 9:30 club in DC. Fucking excellence.

9  Pulp - Do You Remember The First Time
The upward pull and androgyny are fantastic. And Jarvis Cocker was always a prick, which is a good representation of Brits.

8 Ride- Vapor Trail
My song with my first love. We all have one.

7 Sunny Day Real Estate - Seven
I remember listening to this and thinking, absolutely the best mix of indy, underground, and awesome. Oh, and w/o them….no Foo Fighters.

6 Chris Isaak- Wicked Game
I mean really, let me hear something better to play for the girl in your life. You play this, and her heart is yours.

5 Johnny Cash - Hurt
I love NIN, and can’t comprehend how honored they must have felt to have John cover their song, and really, make it his swansong. It always feels when I listen, that this was a perfect serendipity.

4 Big Star - September Gurls
Just a great song. Do you listen to these guys?

3 Black Sabbath- War Pigs
I am a drummer, and led zep is an easy favorite. But when it comes to inventing terrifying bluesrock, these guys are the innovators. Anyone who hears this immediately feels like a bad motherfucker. And you are.

2 Townes Van Zandt - Pancho and Lefty
Nothing is more real than reality. This man was gifted at putting all his eggs in one basket, and believing it was the right basket. The man.

1 John Lennon - Love
A short song, strange and beautiful, It encapsulates my feelings for humanity. I hope you enjoyed my list!
